BRIEF HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT

The department was started on 1-8-1960 by Dr. D. Sundarasiva Rao who later moulded the college in a grand manner as the PRINCIPAL for 7 years (1970 to 1977). 

Dr. Shankar Banerjea, one of the founders of the department established the recent methodology in diagnosis from 1962 to 1992.

Dr. A.V. KRISHNAM RAJU has worked from 1976 to 2007 has renovated & upgraded the department, and instrumental in getting the MCI recognition for all the PG Courses in RMC

DEVELOPMENTAL ACTIVITIES (50 YRS): WITH PHOTOGRAPHS, IF AVAILABLE
  1. Histopathology practical Hall was established in the department in addition to the old lab, presently used as hematology lab.
  2. An A.C. Conference Hall was created with all Audio Visual facilities and was named after Late Dr. Shankar Banerjea used for all college meetings & Academic programmes of P.G.s
  3. Departmental Laboratories are provided with Automation equipments in Heaematology & Histopathology
  4. Facilities for Teaching staff & PG students were modernized by provision of cubicles, lockers etc. as required by them.
ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES FOR THE LAST 50 YRS
  1. Publications: Published about13 papers in various Journals of Pathology.
  2. Presentations:a) Presented 5 papers in various National IAPM conferences.
    b) Presented more than 100 papers in the various Annual state IAPM conferences.
  3. Research Projects:34 research projects were carried out as various topics since the inception of Post graduate courses in the department

  1. Number of scientific papers were presented in the Academic conferences of National / State chapter conferences of IAPM & other specialities.
  2. National Cancer Registry Programme was established continued.
  3. Work on the disorders of Hemoglobin & sickle cell diseases was started by Dr.N.V.S. Nayudu & Dr.Shankar Banerjea was continued by Dr.A.V.K. Raju, Dr.C.V. Lakshmi & others with established results in tribal populations of East & West Godavari Districts, Visakhapatnam & other parts of A.P. The same results were presented by Dr. R.SreeramuluNaidu, Assistant professor during the national seminar and work shop on Hemoglobinopathies at Hyderabad .

  1. Professor J.B.S. HALDANE MUSEUM (Skeleton, Organs & Life history) was established in the department through the courtesy of GODAVARI GENETICS SOCIETY, KAKINADA as a permanent monument in the institution near the Central Library entrance.
  2. Organs 0f Dr Mangayya sarma Prof and HOD ophthalmology who suffered from multiple Myeloma are kept in the pathology Museum.
