HISTORY OF FORENSIC DEPARTMENT

    
The Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology was separated from Pathology because of its immense importance in the aspects of Medico Legal activities by Late Dr. I. Bhushana Rao.
The department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology was started in 1963 with Dr. V. David Edward as Head of the department in Rangaraya Medical College and later it was shifted to the top floor of the old existing Mortuary of Head Quarters Hospital in December 1969.
The department was subsequently expanded with construction of a building – modern mortuary in 2006  besides the 4th class employees Quarters toward Warf road (Now MCH block) , opposite to TB Ward. and was inaugurated in 2009. Presently the department has 5 body coolers with a capacity total 30 bodies preservation. Apart of them, we have 2 old type cooler blocks.
Earlier the department has Post graduate Diploma (D.F.M.) for the posts of Casualty Medical Officers in  District Head Quarter Hospitals  during the year 1978. Dr. Srinivas is the first DFM Student. Due to certain lapses DFM was withdrawn.
Presently we have 3 recognised post graduate degree seats [ MD].
Presently the department has sanctioned posts of 2 Professors, 2 Associate Professors and 4 Assistant Professors. with 3 Postgraduate recognized seats
The first Postgraduate student Dr. K. Shankara  Narayana  joined in 1986.
