HISTORY OF DEPTARTEMENT OF BIOCHEMISTRY

Rangaraya Medical College was established in 16-4-1958 by Medical Education Society (MES) and the Department of Biochemistry was started later. The first batch of MBBS students were admitted around 1958 -59. .
The department was started from the inception of the college as a basic medical subject in the 2nd year of MBBS from 1958.
Dr. D. Narayana Rao was the first professor of the department of chemistry and biochemistry and acted as the principal during the formative months. Later chemistry department was separated in 1961.the department was guided and developed by eminent professors

In 1978 Post Graduate course was started in biochemistry and so far so many students obtained their Master’s degree from this department. With the commencement of post graduate training, research work is being undertaken in the department on various topics. The department has conducted 11th Annual Conference of Association of Medical Biochemists of India (AMBICON) from 28th to 30th November 2003.
Established 24 hours lab April, 2016 onwards for good patient care in Diagnosis and service.Increased PG seats from 2 to 4 candidates from 2015 batch onwords. Introduction of Paramedical courses B.Sc., M.L.T., 2011 and B.Sc. Nursing from 2018.
