HISTORY OF NEURO SURGERY DEPARTMENT

Introduction to the Department

1. Earliest super-speciality started at RMC, Kakinada in the year 1979-80.
2. First neurosurgeon Dr D. Radhakrishna Reddy started the department and developed it from 15-06-1980 to 24-04-1982
3. Subsequently Dr G. Babu Rajendra Prasad who was the first qualified neurosurgeon in AP state joined the department.
4. He was succeeded by Dr K. V. Chalapathi Rao Dr. N. Subramanyam & Dr. G. Malleswara Rao.During his time the Department was well equipped with operating microscope and neuro endoscope.
5. Dr. G. Malleswara Rao has the credit of first pituitary trans-sphenoidal surgery in GGH, Kakinada along with the department of ENT.
6. Then Dr K.Satyavara Prasad took charge as Professor of Neurosurgery and he has procured CUSA and due to his effort M.Ch degree course was started here.
7. Now headed by Dr MV Vijaya sekhar , under his unwavering efforts post graduates increased from 2 to 6 seats

Intra operative ultrasound machine was procured due to his effort in 2024

M.Ch. Neurosurgery Post graduate program

1. Started in August 2013 with Yearly Intake- 2 Seats
2. PG Seats Enhanced from 2 to 6 w.e.f year 2023-2024 
3. With introduction of NEET post graduates are coming even from North & West parts of the country
