History of Community Medicine

Department of Community Medicine was established since inception of Rangaraya Medical College at Simpson building(the present ideal college) in 1956.After  construction of the buildings, Department  shifted to the hospital campus in 1960 .A new extension was added in 2013 as per the MCI norms.First professor of community medicine was Dr.Vallabha Rao and many to succeed .
The current Professor and H.O.D is Dr.P.Sujatha from 8.9.2024 till date
Training of UG students from 1960 till date , Beginning with an intake of 100 undergraduate students/year and the present intake enhanced to 250 numbers from 2019

Post-graduation in Community Medicine was started in the 1980, with 1 MD seat allotted to the department. In the year 2009, the number of MD seats was increased to 3. This year, i.e., 2019, the DPH seat has been converted to MD, making it 4 MD Community Medicine seats for the department. Since 2023 PG seats were enhanced to 10 per year.

At present, there is 1 Professor, 2 Associate Professors and 6 Assistant Professors along with 3 Deputy Civil Surgeons,  2 –senior residents and 1 lecturer in social sciences in the department.
